Richmond, VA (WWBT)- One win can do a lot for a football team. It can clinch a championship, continue a streak or represent an upset, but for one team, just one win ended seven years of disappointment.
George Wythe secured a 22-6 win over Greensville this past Friday, ending the programs 67-game losing streak, which reached back to 2003. Quarterback Leroy Williams tossed for two touchdowns in the second half to fuel the win. The Bulldogs move to 1-5 on the season.
Many athletes have passed through the halls of Wythe without winning a game in their four year high school careers, but this group of seniors was able to avoid that. Williams made a pact with several other teammates when he was a sophomore that they would all stay at the school through graduation. The team now hopes to build off the win and continue playing well through the rest of the season.
Getting another win will not be easy for the Bulldogs. Manchester, James River, Cosby and Huguenot remain on their schedule the rest of the season. The Lancers will welcome Wythe this Friday at 7:30 pm.
