Winston-Salem, NC (WWBT)- Virginia Tech didn't panic when it fell into a 10-0 hole in the first quarter. Instead, the Hokies bounced back, pulled away and made a victory over Wake Forest look relatively easy.
Frank Beamer's team gained 473 yards of total offense in a 38-17 rout of the Demon Deacons. Early on, it looked as though Wake Forest had upset on its mind and was prepared to follow through. The Demon Deacons out-gained the Hokies, 138-10, in the frame, and held a 10-0 lead. Tech, however, would respond, rattling off three unanswered touchdowns in a four possession span to take a 21-10 lead at the half. David Wilson added a rushing touchdown in the third, and Logan Thomas found Marcus Davis from 30 yards out in the fourth to fuel the victory and pad the lead.
Wilson rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Thomas completed 17 of his 32 pass attempts for 280 yards and two scores, while adding two rushing touchdowns as well. Jarrett Boykin had a big day at receiver, pulling down seven receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown.
The Hokies return home to face Boston College next Saturday.
