High school graduation rate increases in Virginia

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Nearly 87% of students in the class of 2011 graduated after four years of high school in Virginia. That's more than a percentage point higher than the class of 2010.

The 2010-2011 academic year was the first that high schools had to meet annual graduation and completion benchmarks to earn full state accreditation.

The Virginia Department of Education says 86% of public high schools are fully accredited, down from 99%.
