1 Marine killed, 2 injured when car collides with runners

YORKTOWN, Va. (AP) - One Marine was killed and two others were injured when a vehicle hit their formation run at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown.

The Navy says the accident happened at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday as the Marines ran on Halstead Road.

The two injured Marines were taken to Riverside Medical Center in Newport News.

The Marines were assigned to 2nd Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team Company, Marine Security Force Regiment, a tenant command of the weapons station.

The Department of Defense does not release names until 24 hours after the victims' relatives have been notified.

Navy spokesman Mark Piggott says no charges have been filed and the incident is under investigation.

Capt. Lowell D. Crow, commander of Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, expressed condolences for those who were harmed.
