RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Wall Street protests are expanding to Richmond with dozens of people expected to voice their concerns on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University.
Just before 12:00 p.m. Friday, folks started showing up for a rally expected to take place from noon to 4:00 p.m..
NBC12 spoke with some of the organizers of Occupy Richmond and they're expecting hundreds of people to show up and participate.
Students organizing the rally say they're fed up with Wall Street. Friday's rally is part of a grassroots movement that started about three weeks ago in New York, when a few hundred people gathered to speak out about corporate greet and inequality.
The movement has picked up momentum, spreading to cities nationwide in an effort to show solidarity.
"I hope to personally bring awareness that this movement is everywhere and the sentiment that's being held up on Wall Street by the people is being held everywhere," said Julia Arnone of Occupy Richmond.
NBC12 will remain on campus and bring you coverage of this event in our afternoon newscasts.
