CHARLOTTE, VA (WWBT) - The preseason poll was released in the CIAA in Charlotte on Thursday.
Virginia Union University's men's basketball team was predicted to finish third in the Northern Division of the CIAA, while the women's basketball team was predicted to place fifth. On the men's side, Bowie State University was picked to finish first in the Northern Division, followed by Elizabeth City State University. VUU was third while Virginia State University was picked fourth. Chowan University was fifth while Lincoln University was sixth.
Shaw University was named as the top team in the Southern Division while Johnson C. Smith University was picked to finish second. Winston-Salem State University was predicted to finish third and Fayetteville State University was picked fourth. Livingstone College was picked to finish fifth and Saint Augustine's College was sixth.
On the women's side, Virginia State University was named the top team in the Northern Division while Elizabeth City State University was second. Chowan University was named to finish third and Bowie State University was fourth. VUU was picked fifth while Lincoln was picked sixth.
