President pushes Congress to pass jobs plan

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - President Obama held a news conference Thursday morning, urging Congress to pass his jobs plan.

The President says passing this bill will give people the help they need now. Mr. Obama says independent economists say his plan will give the economy the jolt it needs.

This push came just minutes after the Labor Department released the number of applying for unemployment benefits. That number rose last week by 6,000.

The Senate is expected to vote on the jobs bill next week. President Obama says if any lawmaker plans to vote against it, they should explain why and come up with an alternative.
