Police arrest teen for stabbing woman in back

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – A woman is in severe pain after she says a 14-year-old boy stabbed her in the back with a steak knife. Police arrested the teenager early Thursday morning.

The victim is doing okay, but she says she's in a lot of pain right now. Not just physical pain, but mental pain too.

Shantel Parker has been looking after the teen for a few years and she was just trying to help him through a tough time when she was stabbed unexpectedly.

Bandages cover Parker's lower-mid back after she says a 14 -ear-old boy she's been mentoring for several years stabbed her.

She tells us it happened inside her home on the 1200 block of East Brookland Park Boulevard in north Richmond.

"I'm in excruciating pain," said Parker.

Parker says her girlfriend's nephew came into the bedroom around 7:00 Wednesday night. She tells us he asked her what his purpose in life was. She told him he inspired other people.

"While I'm hugging him, he's hugging me with one arm and he has a knife in my back and I never felt it," Parker said. "I fell to the floor because I got weak. The knife fell out of my back. I saw the blood and went into shock."

Parker says she fell onto the bed and the teenager ran out the back door. She called police immediately.

"I was in shock," Parker added. "It caught me off guard. I was actually hugging him. I thought he was feeling sorry for himself."

Police arrested the teen around 1:00 Thursday morning near the home.

"I'm in excruciating pain," Parker noted. "I can't take medication because it will puncture a lung or cause pneumonia."

Even though the pain is so bad, parker can hardly walk. She says she forgives him.

"I'm not mad because he's a child," Parker said. "I understand his situation. I'm not mad."

Police say the teenager has been turned over to juvenile authorities. There is no word on any charges at this time.
