RICHMOND, VA (WWBT)- The State Health Department says doors must close on restaurants with a tight seal to keep out pests. An inspector reported that a Chesterfield restaurant ended up with a roach and ant problem because of an opening in the back door screen.
It happened at Triple Eight Chinese, 4410 West Hundred Road, which had 5 critical violations. Despite getting monthly pest control service, the report says there were numerous roaches and ants throughout the facility and that a back door didn't seal shut. On a follow-up inspection two weeks later, the inspector still complained of roaches and ants. But two weeks after that, another follow-up report says the problem was improved.
Moving to Henrico, Malabar Indian Cuisine at 3456 Lauderdale Drive had 5 critical violations. The inspection report says some employees' hands were dirty and they did not wash them before putting on gloves. But all violations were corrected by the next day's follow-up inspection.
There's nothing twisted on the inspection reports at the Twisted Tomato, 13544 Waterford Place in Chesterfield. This pizza and sub shop wins the NBC 12 Hall of Fame Award for perfect scores on five inspections in a row.
A new restaurant opened in Chesterfield: Ichiban Grill and Supreme Buffet at 6443 Centralia Road. The new owner took us inside to show off where they're now serving Japanese cuisine.
But Friendly's is closing four restaurants in Henrico, on Hull Street, and in Colonial Heights after filing for bankruptcy protection. The Friendly's on West Broad and Midlothian Turnpike will stay open.
