Suspect wanted for home burglary in Henrico's west end

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A crime alert out of Henrico's west end where police are looking for a man who broke into a home and jumped out a window to escape.

The suspect was seen leaving a home in the 7700 block of Rock Creek Road -- that's near Patterson Avenue.

Police officers are patrolling the neighborhood.

The crime happened  around 12:30 p.m. nearly two weeks ago.

According to the victim, the suspect kicked a hole in the back door and managed to squeeze through that hole to get inside the house.

The victim asked we not reveal her identity but says when she and her husband pulled into the driveway, it likely scared off the criminal, who jumped out the bedroom window and walked away from the house.

"We felt safe in our home and we just couldn't believe this was happening in our neighborhood. We hope nothing like this ever happens again," the victim said.

Several neighbors say they saw the man running through different yards and jumping over fences.

One neighbor, who doesn't want to be identified, confronted the guy -- asking him what was he doing.

"He stopped for a minute and said his dog got loose and its name was Taylor and he was looking for it," she said.

The neighbor says the man was believable -- she volunteered to help.

"He said he saw it running up Rock Creek and if I could help look for it.  I'll go up Rock Creek and he Brookside and we'd cut the dog off and I said I would and that's the last time I saw him," she added.

Another neighbor, Sean Hackney,  calls the crime unsettling but says it has brought the neighborhood together.

"We've gotten to know neighbors we didn't know before because everyone is talking about it," said Hackney.

Now, neighbors and the victims are asking you to call police if you recognize the man. Police released a sketch of the suspect.

Nothing was taken from the victim's house.  Her medicine cabinet had been dumped out.

That neighbor who confronted the suspect says she later found out from police that there was no lost dog -- and the man is wanted.

Police believe the man is between the ages of 20-30 and between 5-8 and 6 feet tall.

If you can help police call crime stoppers at 780-1000.
