Firefighters respond to early morning fire in Henrico

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Henrico firefighters are working to put out a house fire in the 5200 block of Fisher Crest Lane, in the Darbytown Road area of Varina.

The fire started around 6 a.m. Wednesday. At this point there are no reports of injuries.

Varina district supervisor Jim Donati owns the home. He put it on the market and hoped to sell it soon.

It could have spread through the woods and to other homes if a neighbor hadn't seen the flames in time. His dog barked when she saw the flames.

From Henrico Fire Department:

Fire crews responded shortly before 6am for a reported house fire at 5290 Fisher Crest Lane, off of Charles City Rd.  Upon arrival fire units found a two story home well engulfed with fire. This area has limited fire hydrants and a mobile water supply system had to be set up to shuttle water into the scene. There no reported injuries at this fire of civilians or fire personnel and the home was not occupied at the time of the fire

At this time the investigation continues into the cause of this fire. The fire consumed well over 80% of the home with some damage to the attached garage. The Henrico Fire Marshal's office is leading the investigation and will continue to remain on scene throughout the day.  With the amount of damage to the home, the Fire Marshal's will be ensuring that no stone is left unturned and all possible causes have been investigated.

Our temperatures have been trending colder than average for about 65-percent of the days of this month so far, and it looks like that overall trend could hang tough not only through most of next week, but after a very brief break, could quickly return and take us into the half of May.  Blame the semi-persistent trough, or dip southward, in the jet stream over the Midwest and East, something we've seen frequently since early March!
