PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) -As part of a state mandate Petersburg public schools hired Edison Learning to work with A.P. Hill and JEB Stuart Elementary Schools. In the two million dollar contract performance goals are outlined. A.P. Hill is to show an increase of fifteen percent in core areas at the end this school year. JEB Stuart is to show a ten Percent increase.
"What's happening right now is our professional educators are going through the process of evaluating and accessing the learning environment in both schools," said Michael Serpee from Edison Learning.
That portion of the process is expected to conclude by the end of this month, and then Edison will meet with school leaders in the district to outline a specific plan of action to address what is working and what is not.
"The approach taken is not the same for every school because from our perspective there is no one size fits all for education," said Serpee.
The goal is to close the achievement gap.
"We look forward to the time this is done and we can move forward without external help but while we have it we want to capitalize on what we can get from it that can help us as a school division," said Dr. Alvera Parrish Petersburg schools Superintendent.
