ETTRICK, VA (WWBT) - Virginia State used a last minute touchdown to stay alive, and then scored another touchdown in overtime, to top Bowie State 28-21 Saturday at Rogers Stadium.
Junior quarterback, Jarred Battle threw a 21 yard TD pass to wide receiver Timothy Paulk sending the game into overtime with 16 seconds left in the game. Battle rushed for a 2 yard score to win the game in overtime bringing the Trojans to a 3-2 overall record and 2-1 record in the CIAA conference.
VSU held a 7-0 lead at halftime after a Battle TD run in the second quarter. With 3:30 left in the fourth, Bowie State took their first lead with a Tariq Jones touchdown run. VSU's Howard Spencer returned the following kickoff 88 yards for the score.
The teams traded TD's in the final minute of regulation. VSU turned the ball over five times, including three interceptions.
The Trojans head to Fayetteville State next weekend.
