RICHMOND, VA (WWBT)-A swimmer who went missing in the James River in Chesterfield late Wednesday night is safe Thursday morning.
It took rescue crews 90 minutes to find the missing swimmer after she decided to take a late night swim in the river.
Emergency crews got the call around 8:30 Wednesday night and immediately went into search mode.
The Water Rescue Team, Police and EMS all helped in the search for this missing swimmer. Boats, Med flight and the K-9 unit searched from the air and the ground.
The water rescue team found the swimmer about 90 minutes later.
The Battalion Chief told NBC12 that she got stuck in mud flats. The team took her to the Dutch Gap boat landing where EMS crews checked her out. The main concern was possible hypothermia, but we were told she was fine.
Chesterfield fire crews aren't saying much about who this swimmer is but we have a few details. She lives in a trailer park near the river and she was not wearing a life jacket. We also know that she is shorter than five feet.
