Hanover and Highland Springs Set to Kick Off Capital District Play

Mechanicsville, VA (WWBT)- After getting through their non-district schedules, a majority of local teams will kick off in league play this Friday.  That includes Hanover and Highland Springs, who will play in a crucial early Capital District match-up on the Hawks' home field, which is our On the Sidelines Game of the Week.

Hanover snapped a seven game losing streak to the Springers last year en route to a perfect regular season, winning 27-8 at Highland Springs.  The Hawks would go on to finish 11-1 with their only loss coming to Dinwiddie in the Central Region championship game.  As for the Springers, that loss to Hanover was one of just three defeats during the regular season, but they fell to L.C. Bird in the opening round of the playoffs.

As for this year, both teams are out to solid starts.  Highland Springs fell to Meadowbrook to open their season, but have won two in a row, defeating Douglas Freeman and Dinwiddie to enter this contest at 2-1.  As for Hanover, they have rolled through their first three opponents, entering the meeting averaging 45.3 points per game.

Friday's Game of the Week kicks off at 7:00 pm at Hanover.
