Hamlin says title chances are over

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Only two races into the Chase, and Denny Hamlin is all ready giving up on his chances to win a title in 2010.  Tuesday the man who came one race away from winning the title last year is all ready looking ahead to 2012.

Hamlin said in a video teleconference today that he doesn't think it's likely that his team will be able to put the run together to get to the front of the pack.  Hamlin sits 66 points behind leader Tony Stewart and 32 points behind 11th place Ryan Newman.  The Chesterfield native came into the Chase in 12th place, and he's had finished of 29th and 31st in the two Chase races.

Hamlin said the only thing he's hoping to accomplish over the next eight races is to get some victories to give him some momentum going into next season. He acknowledges that his team has just had a long run of bad luck this season - running out of gas, blowing engines, getting in wrecks - and he's just ready to shut the book on 2011.

The Cup Series shifts to Dover this week, where Hamlin has two top 5's and zero wins in his career.
