Man charged in Martin's stabbing makes court appearance

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - For the first time, the Martin's employee who police say stabbed a female co-worker was in court Monday morning.

Derek James, 29, made his initial court appearance and was ordered held without bond.

This is a violent crime that rocked the Village Shopping Plaza in the West End where this stabbing happened.

James is the Martin's employee police say stabbed another employee several times. He ended up stabbing himself in the process, and was in the hospital until the weekend.

The violent morning started Thursday, September 22, just after 6 a.m.

Police say James and another female employee got into a fight, which escalated into the stabbings.

The woman who was stabbed is still in the hospital.
