RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond police are investigating a homicide in Shockoe Bottom. Police say 24-year-old Ramoan Tolliver was stabbed on Amber Street, behind the Main Street train station 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning. He died at the hospital hours later.
Police have named a suspect in the case. They are looking for 36-year-old William Nelson. Police say he will be charged with murder.
The area the stabbing took place is often used for parking which gets especially crowded on weekends. It happened around 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning, while many were still out and about in the Bottom.
"I'm sorta shocked. so, maybe it's an isolated incident, hopefully," said Velda Walker, who sells products at the nearby farmers' market.
"I actually can't believe it, cause we park around here all the time and it's never been any issues so that's really shocking to me," added Brittany Ross. "
Like most who use this popular parking area, Ross says she's never felt unsafe until now: "Normally, it is still busy regardless of if it's day or night, but I probably won't park back here anymore."
The stabbing happened within a few blocks of two murders that happened within two weeks, just last year. One of them was at the Have a Nice Day Cafe. Another was in a parking lot neighboring Ambler Street. It led to an increased police presence in the area.
The crime scene is also within eyeshot of community gardens and a farmers' market.
"It's a secluded area where the stabbing happened. there's nothing back there, there's no businesses back there," said Carolyn Robinson.
She hopes the crime won't impact her business.
