RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A case of road rage on the Powhite Parkway leaves one man in critical condition and another on the run. The victim's Honda Accord hit the Douglasdale Bridge about eight this morning.
Police need your help in finding the other driver. Investigators do have a big clue they want you to see!
The car landed just below the bridge, facing oncoming traffic. Emergency crews had to cut out the driver. The 24-year-old Richmond man is in a hospital bed, while police search for the driver of this 2004 Ford Ranger pickup truck.
"The red truck from what witnesses indicate forces the Honda Accord off the road," said Richmond Police Lt. Robert Marland.
Witnesses told police they spotted the two drivers swerving in and out of lanes. Police don't know what started the aggression, but say the truck pulled in front of the Honda and slammed on the brakes. The Honda driver turned hard to avoid a collision, but lost control.
"Once he does. he heads for the side of the road and then he's lost, he's off and gone up the embankment," said Lt. Marland.
Police said after hitting the embankment, the car went airborne and hit the concrete support for the bridge. The truck driver kept going south, but ran a toll booth.
As police search for the driver, they have this message for others about road rage.
"There's no one action a driver can do that should ever get you to the point where you let anger be the driver," said Lt. Marland.
If you can help investigators find the suspect vehicle and that driver, call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
The suspect vehicle is a red 2004 Ford Ranger pickup with North Carolina tags, YNM-8924.
Police believe he may have taken one of the Chippenham Parkway exits.
