Eight displaced, two injured after apartment fire

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Eight people are displaced and two injured after a Tuesday morning apartment fire.

Shortly after 11:00 a.m. firefighters arrived at Southwood Apartments to find heavy smoke and fire coming from one of the properties two-story apartment buildings.

It took crews about 30 minutes to control the blaze.

Investigators say the fire started in a lower level of one apartment and spread to two neighboring apartments.

One other apartment was also ruined by smoke damage. Apartment managers and the Red Cross are now working to find a place for those displaced.

Firefighters say the two injured residents were treated for minor cuts and smoke inhalation.

No word yet on what started the fire.
