Jose Ramirez to be sentenced for arson Monday

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT)-The man convicted of setting fires at an Ashland hotel will be sentenced in court Monday.

Back in July, that man, Jose Ramirez pleaded guilty to the crimes.

Jose Ramirez, the man many are calling the Ashland arsonist, will find out how long he'll have to pay for his crimes.

Ramirez even stayed around after burning down the motel to get his work on camera.

And he even shared those images with NBC12 before we knew his connection to the crime.

In the first fire Ramirez set, you can see firefighters running through the parking lot and the motel guests running to safety.

He set two more fires after the one he videotaped. A surveillance team says they saw Ramirez set the third fire and police arrested him.

Back in July he pleaded guilty to setting two fires. His attorney says Ramirez had been drinking heavily under extreme emotional distress.

The fires caused two million dollars in damage.

Ramirez's sentencing is at ten in Hanover County Monday morning.
