West Grove, PA (WWBT)- At the beginning of the season, it looked as if Virginia Union was on its way to an impressive season. At the end of the day, the Panthers found their record at .500 and on a two game losing streak.
Lincoln scored the first 19 points of the game and held off a Virginia Union charge to down the Panthers, 19-10. VUU did all of its scoring in the fourth quarter. Down 19-0 with 8:00 to play, Richard Rodwell rushed for a three yard touchdown to make it 19-6, after a failed two point conversion attempt. The Panthers would tally two safeties to round out the scoring, but could not come back on Lincoln, which prevailed, despite gaining only 197 yards of total offense on the afternoon.
Virginia Union shutout its first two opponents of the season and was looking to rebound from its first defeat of 2011, a blowout loss to Winston-Salem State last Saturday at Hovey Field.
The Panthers return home next Saturday and will host Bowie State. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 pm.
