RICHMOND, VA (WWBT)-Everyone has a chance to learn what it takes to help out emergency responders in a big disaster. Taking this weekend to go through some safety training could be a life saver!
We all know how busy the emergency responders were during hurricane Irene. These men and women needed your help to report problems and man the fire stations.
That's exactly why getting involved in this training could help not only you and your family but others too.
It's all part of the program called CERT: Citizen Emergency Response Team.
Taking part in these classes you'll learn everything you need to know to respond to small emergencies and how to help your fellow neighbors out during a disaster.
This weekend, during the training, you will have the chance to learn how to respond if a tornado hits the area, and what to do if emergency services are not available.
The training will take place at Colonial Heights Middle School, that's at 500 Conduit Road in Colonial Heights.
It's all set to start at 9 am.
This training could also come in handy especially if a disaster was to hit your own family.
