Earn cash for your school without spending extra money

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - It's no secret that schools need every dollar they can get. They're fighting hard for resources that directly benefit students.

For 38 years, we've been clipping labels for education. They are found on dozens of products, many of which line your pantry.

You'll find them on Campbell's soup cans, Post cereals, V8 juices, and even Spaghettio's. Each label earns points that the school can exchange for free educational equipment. On top of the clipped labels, you can sign up for elabels, which credit your school extra points when you're checking out at the store.

Then there's boxtops for education.

"Cut them out. The school gets 10 cents for each boxtop. We've had a record year before of $5000 which we were able to buy items for the school," said Amy Deady of the Swift Creek Elementary PTA.

You'll find them on yogurt, butter, diapers and trash bags. They're on hundreds of products you buy everyday. And speaking of shopping...

"Kroger, Martin's and Food Lion. Go onto their websites and logon to your school," said Deady

Enter your loyalty card and a percentage of your grocery spending will kick back to the school of your choice.

Chesterfield has an added opportunity. The Third Annual Great Denim Days can earn cash while helping you clear your closet. Go to shopchesterfieldfirst.com, print a voucher for your school and bring it with your old jeans to Chesterfield Towne Center before Sept.18th.

"You can help your PTA raise money without having to spend money. Just take your jeans that you would be giving away or having a yard sale for, take them to the Towne Center, donate them to Goodwill, and your PTA could earn up to $1200," said Dana Matheny from Shop Chesterfield First.

But that's not all, many schools collect Coke bottle tops, old cell phones and used printer cartridges.
