RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - It's a little hard to believe that we are already in the middle of September with the official beginning of Fall just nine days away. The blistering heat we experienced during the summer of 2011 will soon just be a memory. However, it will likely be one in the record books for many years to come.
The Summer of 2011 was our second hottest summer period (June through August) on record with an average high of 79.7° This is on the heels of the hottest summer on record just one year ago. We had an average temperature of 81.3° during the summer of 2010.
In addition to being hot, it was also dry. Until Irene and Lee brought us heavy rain, some areas were under voluntary water conservation.
