September 15 Restaurant Report

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - In this Restaurant Report, violations range from fruit flies, to temperature problems, to a dirty grill. The good news is that they've all been fixed.

The state health inspector wrote that there were quite a few fruit flies throughout Murphy's Law Billiards at 6411 Chesterfield Meadows Drive in Chesterfield. It had 4 critical violations. Violations were corrected during the inspection. The restaurant had one critical violation on a follow-up, which was also corrected.

Also in Chesterfield, Bella Pizza Café at 20845 Woodpecker Road had 4 critical violations. The report says foods in the sandwich make-up table were not being kept cold enough. They were immediately moved to a cooler. The make-up table was still not fixed ten days later on a re-inspection, but it was when the Café was checked one more time a few days after that.

And in Richmond, Hibachi Express at 2500 Sheila Lane had 4 critical violations, including that the flat top grill was soiled to sight and touch. It was cleaned and all violations were corrected while the inspector was there. The manager declined to comment for our report.

Stepping into Havana 59 at 16 North 17th Street in Richmond will take you back to the city considered the Paris of the Caribbean in the 1950's. The restaurant has earned perfect scores on three recent health inspections, winning this week's NBC 12 Hall of Fame Award.

Capital Ale House is celebrating Oktoberfest. The first event is on Saturday, September 17 at their location in Fredericksburg and the second is Saturday, October 1 at its downtown Richmond location. Go to for more information.
