Plea agreement reached in Pelham case

HOPEWELL, VA (WWBT) - A plea deal is reached in the case against a former mayor and current Hopewell city councilwoman.

Ten of the 13 misdemeanor conflict of interest counts against Brenda Pelham were dismissed  in exchange for her pleading " no contest"  to the remaining three. The judge continued the matter for one year, which is when prosecutors say they'll dismiss all charges if Pelham stays out of trouble.

Prosecutors say Pelham failed to declare a "conflict of interest" in voting on school related matters. Pelham is an attendance officer at Hopewell High School.
