HARRISONBURG, VA (WWBT) - Mickey Matthews is never one to hold his tongue. This week the JMU coach had some high praise for Liberty's quarterback, Mike Brown.
At his weekly press conference, Matthews called Brown "the best quarterback in the state." He added that he hasn't seen the quarterbacks at Richmond (Aaron Corp) or at William & Mary (Mike Paulus), but still, the description is incredibly flattering.
Whether he is or is not the "best" Brown is the most accomplished. The former Flames wide receiver is a three-time captain, and two-time Big South Offensive Player of the Year. Along with head coach Mike Rocco, Brown has helped to bring the Flames into relevance, as they have become the class of the Big South Conference.
As for JMU, they're coming off a less-than-impressive victory over Central Connecticut State. The Dukes won 14-9 Saturday in front of over 25,000 people in their newly renovated stadium.
JMU will play in a hostile environment Saturday night, with kickoff set for 7pm in Lynchburg.
