City of Richmond awards school construction contracts

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The construction of two new elementary schools in Richmond is back on track.

The city announced today that it's selected a contractor for both Broad Rock and Oak Grove Elementary schools, at a total cost of just over $39-million.

That's $5-million less than the city originally planned.

The city had to re-issue the bids a few months ago when contractors said it would cost more to build the school than the city budgeted.

The schools are set to open in January of 2012.
