Adequate sleep for children

HOPEWELL, VA (WWBT) - Dr. John Clay has another good back-to-school suggestion. Make sure your kids get good sleep.

Sleep is vitally important as children are starting school. Behavior and concentration may be adversely affected by inadequate sleep.

Children age 5-12 generally need 10-11 hours of sleep, where kids ages 13-18 need 8-9 hours nightly.

Encourage a good routine of a consistent bedtime and awakening schedule, avoid caffeine and turn off any TVs or computers in the room during sleep time.
