Richmond, VA (WWBT)- After topping Duke to open the season, Richmond hit the field at Robins Stadium for its home opener against Wagner. For the first time in the venue's young history, a game was held under the lights, and the outcome would not disappoint the Spider faithful.
Richmond used a big second half to take the 21-6 victory over the Seahawks to improve to 2-0 on the season. Aaron Corp hit Ben Edwards for a 56 yard touchdown pass on the third play of the game, but the offense would falter after that, committing turnovers on five consecutive possessions. Wagner, however, would only manage three points off those turnovers.
The Spiders would calm down in the second half and do a much better job of taking care of the ball. Corp hit Kevin Finney from six yards out for a score to make it 14-3 in the third quarter. After a Wagner field goal, Kendall Gaskins punched it from one yard out to cap off the scoring. Gaskins would finish the day with 98 rushing yards on a career high 24 carries.
Corp would finish the night 16-of-25 for 236 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Senior wide receiver Tre Gray continued to be one of his favorite targets, pulling in six receptions for 85 yards.
Richmond remains at Robins Stadium next Saturday when VMI visits for an in-state showdown. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
