Multiple Chesterfield Schools planning 9/11 commemorations

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A number of Chesterfield schools have announced they will be hosting commemorations for the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

Clover Hill Elementary – Friday, Sept. 9

In small groups throughout the day, younger grades will hear "Horton Hatches the Egg" and discuss the core value of responsibility. Older grades will participate in an activity designed to spark conversations about 9/11 and core values.

Clover Hill Elementary is located at 5700 Woodlake Village Parkway.

Crenshaw Elementary – Friday, Sept. 9

At 10:45 a.m., teacher Misty Wiggins will conduct a writing assignment and a discussion of heroism and community with her fifth-grade class. At the beginning of the school day, morning announcements will include a moment of silence and information about 9/11, tying the idea of service to others to the school system's global connection instructional strand.

Crenshaw Elementary is located at 11901 Bailey Bridge Road.

Elizabeth Davis Middle

A new bulletin board features photos of service professionals connected to the school. The photos include parents and staff members who are serving or have served as police officers, firefighters or military personnel. The photos will remain on display through Veterans Day.

Elizabeth Davis Middle is located at 601 Corvus Court.

Matoaca Middle – 2:45 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12

The school has invited firefighters, police officers and EMS crews to be at both campuses at the end of the school day in recognition of their courageous efforts every day. Throughout Monday, English classes will write thank you notes and art classes will create banners.

Matoaca Middle's west campus is located at 20300 Halloway Ave. and the east campus is located at 6001 Hickory Road.

High school football games – Friday, Sept. 9

There will be a moment of silence and reflection at all home football games.
