HURRICANE HEROES

Pat Dudley provides help to neighbors

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - We asked, you answered. Last week, we wanted you to nominate your "Hurricane Heroes," average people who made a big difference in the community during Irene.

Pat Dudley was one of them. At her Henrico home, Pat has a whole house generator and she had a whole lot of company in the aftermath of Irene.

"When I had lights and no one else did, everyone ended up at my place for breakfast, dinner and lunch," Pat said.

Pat provided hot showers and food to more than two dozen people for nine straight days.

"Everybody's food was going bad, and they couldn't cook, and I have gas, and I have a gas grill outside, so we all jumped together and cooked up all the food out of everybody's refrigerator," Pat said.

"The best part about it is seeing your neighbors again and your family because all them were here. Everybody was here. They couldn't believe it," she said.

Neighbors tell us Pat's a generous hostess and a genuine hurricane hero.

Martin's has provided a $300 gift certificate for each of the hurricane heroes to 12 On Your Side free of charge as a gift for the unsung heroes of Irene.
