RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A total of 3.76 inches of rain fell at Richmond International Airport yesterday, shattering the old record of 2.15 inches.
In a 24-hour period, we surpassed the average rainfall of the entire month (3.56"). Thankfully, river levels are all staying below flood stage. The James in Richmond at the Westham Gauge was just below 11 feet this morning, and should drop to near 8 feet by Friday morning.
Rain totals since Wednesday have gone as high as 7 or 8 feet east of Interstate 95 corridor in Virginia. Numerous counties have reporting flooded roadways and schools have been closed in New Kent and Charles City counties and delayed in King William and Surry counties. There is a flood advisory until 9 a.m. for many areas east of I-95.
The only river in Virginia with minor flooding is the Blackwater in Dendron, which was around 5.5 feet Thursday morning.
