Back to School: Traffic alerts to keep in mind

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – As teachers and students prepare to head back to school Tuesday, there are a couple of traffic alerts to keep in mind.

Starting Tuesday, drivers will be sharing the road with buses again. Drivers will have to stop for a school bus regardless of which direction they're driving. The only time they won't have to stop for a bus is if they're on a divided roadway. Failure to stop could result in a reckless driving charge.

Drivers will also need to take note of the reduced speed limit in school zones.

In Chesterfield, work is still underway on a new roundabout near Clover Hill High School. The half-million dollar project will transform that intersection where Old Hundred Road, Brandermill Parkway and Kelly Green Drive meet.

When school starts, officers will be in place during construction for a couple of weeks until drivers become accustomed to the new traffic pattern.

Students, parents and people who live in Brandermill should get a taste of the roundabout by October 1.
