Chesterfield apartment fire under control, no injuries

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Chesterfield Fire crews were able to quickly contain an apartment fire Sunday morning.

Around 9:58 a.m., a call came in about a fire at the Bellwood Maisonette Apartments off Jefferson Davis Highway. Four minutes later, firefighters arrived on scene and by 10:10 a.m., the fire was under control.

According to fire officials, the fire was contained to an apartment kitchen. They say electricity was recently restored to the complex and that it appears the stove had been left on when power was initially lost.

No one was injured in the fire, but firefighters were able to rescue two cats.

Chesterfield Fire is reminding everyone who is still without power to make sure breakers to major appliances are cut off. That way, when power is restored, there is less risk for a fire.
