Norfolk, VA (WWBT)- For the first time, Old Dominion took the football field as a member of the CAA, and if Saturday night's result proves to be a trend, the Monarchs will have no problem with their conference status.
ODU's defense held Campbell to just 231 yards of total offense, while gaining 506 of their own, as the Monarchs downed the Camels, 41-14. After Campbell scored on its opening drive, Old Dominion responded for 38 straight points. Quarterback Thomas DeMarco engineered four scoring drives in the first half to give the Monarchs a 28-7 lead at halftime. They would cruise from there to move to 1-0 on the season.
DeMarco finished the night with 312 passing yards, completing 29 of his 39 pass attempts. He threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another score. Antonio Vaughan was the main workhorse for Old Dominion, tallying up 191 all-purpose yards and two total touchdowns.
The Monarchs will head to Atlanta next Saturday for a meeting with Georgia State at the Georgia Dome.
