Virginia State Struggles in Loss to Norfolk State

Norfolk, VA (WWBT)- Virginia State struggled to move the ball and suffered a 37-3 loss at Norfolk State to open its 2011 schedule.

The Trojans had trouble gaining yards throughout the evening, only managing 138 yards of total offense, while Norfolk State tallied 438 yards to dominate offensively.  Only 30 of VSU's yards came on the ground.  Senior running back, Antwain Lyde led VSU with 74 all purpose yards and senior kicker William Rudd scored the Trojans only points in the second quarter with a 43 yard field goal.

Trojan quarterback Jarred Battle completed 14-of-27 pass attempts and threw an interception.  Meanwhile, his counterpart, Chris Walley, led the Spartans with an efficient 25-of-29 effort that also saw him throw two touchdown passes.  Walley also rushed for 45 yards in the Norfolk State victory.

Virginia State hits the road again next week, as the Trojans head to West Virginia State for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
