Big second half lifts Dinwiddie over Monacan

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Dinwiddie's first-year starting quarterback passed his first test, as the Generals put up a huge second half to beat Monacan 35-14 in the openers for both teams.

Senior quarterback Brian Finney through three touchdowns, two of them to sophomore Wesley Reed, and wildcat QB Darius Hawkins rushed for two TD's for the Gens.  Finney finished 15-21, for 151 yards with just one interception.

Reed's first score, a 13 yard TD catch, gave Dinwiddie a 6-0 lead.  The score did not change until Monacan's first drive of the third quarter, when Chiefs senior running back Rainey Hart uncorked a 71 yard touchdown run. Dinwiddie responded with touchdowns on their next two drives to take over the game.

Monacan plays at Godwin on Friday, September 9th, and Dinwiddie hosts Varina for its next game.
