Louisa school officials change mind on Saturday classes

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - One of the big sticking points for parents in Louisa was the plan to send middle school students to class on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

So Monday night, county officials decided those students would only have to go every other Saturday. The first Saturday middle schoolers will need to attend class will be September 17.

High School Students will be using middle school classrooms and going on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Monday night's public hearing was held after Louisa's school board and Board of Supervisors met to discuss conditions in the county since last Tuesday's earthquake.

The damage to Louisa High School and Thomas Jefferson Elementary has closed those schools for the rest of the year.

That means elementary students will be moved to Trevilians Elementary, while high schoolers will split time with middle school students at their facility.

Monday night's meeting almost took on a pep rally feeling, with parents thanking school officials, not only for rethinking the Saturday plan, but helping make sure there was a school year at all.
