Virginia Primary: District voting results

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Republicans leaned toward their most conservative candidates in key state Senate races during Tuesday's legislative primaries.

Among the GOP winners was former state Republican Party Chairman Jeff Frederick, a former Virginia House member who defeated Tito "The Builder" Munoz in the 36th Senate District. Frederick challenges Democratic Sen. Linda "Toddy" Puller in November.

Another conservative former House member, Dick Black, won the GOP nomination in the 13th Senate District. Black dismayed his own party's House leadership during the 2003 General Assembly by sending colleagues plastic fetus dolls.

Thomas Garrett, endorsed by Attorney General and tea party hero Ken Cuccinelli, won a five-way primary in a redrawn rural district that sprawls from Lynchburg nearly to Richmond. The district encompasses the epicenter of Tuesday's magnitude 5.8 earthquake in Louisa County.
