Insect bites

HOPEWELL, VA (WWBT) - The more time you spend outside, the more vulnerable you can be to little threats that can make life uncomfortable.

Dr. John Clay is warning about insect bites at Primary Health Group-Hopewell.

Prevention is key.  Insect repellant that contain de et are recommended.  Insect repellant is safe for children 2 months and older.

Repellant should be applied to exposed skin and clothes but not under clothing.  Wash your hands after applying.

Topical hydrocortisone can be helpful for bites that itch, however persistent redness, pain, or swelling should prompt a doctor visit.
