RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A funny thing happened at the Richmond Jazz Festival at Maymont last weekend. I looked around and I saw people from every walk of life you could imagine. They were white, black, Asian, Hispanic and Native American. They were working class, middle income, upper income and probably some were the super rich. They all had a common goal, which was achieved all weekend, the goal: "Listen To the Music."
The circumstances changed many times. Sometimes it was hot, sometimes cool ,other times cloudy and we even had rain. The bands played jazz, neo soul, a little rock and Latin music too.
But in spite of all those changing situations, the goal was accomplished again and again. They listened to the music. It is amazing what people can do when there is common purpose and common goals. The work is easy and most times fun. We can't wait to do it again and again because we know in the end we'll arrive at a place we'll all enjoy.
We need to have that same attitude when it comes to solving this nation's problems. But it will not be done in Washington if we can't find common purpose and common goals right here.
So the next time you enter the debate, ask yourself, can I "Listen to the Music." And the next time you vote, ask yourself, can this candidate "Listen to The Music." If we can do it in Central Virginia it can be done anywhere. "Listen to the Music."
