Rams seniors see pro future come into focus

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - No one has played more basketball games in a VCU uniform that Joey Rodriguez, Ed Nixon and Brandon Rozzell.  Now all three of them are close to knowing where they will play their next games in the professional ranks.

Thursday Nixon finalized a deal that will send him to Feni Industries, a team in the top league in Macedonia. There is currently only one other American on that team - Sacred Heart product Jarrid Frye.

Rodriguez is close to finalizing a deal that will send him to a team in Istanbul, Turkey. Right after graduating from VCU, Rodriguez played in a professional league in Puerto Rico, but that season ended at the beginning of the summer.

Rozzell, the Highland Springs product, is expected to join a team in Germany in September.  He is waiting on the birth of his child before leaving Richmond.

The other senior on the team, Jamie Skeen, signed with ASVEL in Lyon, France shortly after not getting taken in the NBA Draft.  He is currently in France working out with his new team.

Baseball success runs in Conner Menez's family. His grandfather, Bill Plummer, was a member of the 1970's Big Red Machine, backing up hall of famer Johnny Bench behind the plate. Menez will make his first home start for the Flying Squirrels on Friday, but burst onto the scene in his AA debut, tossing six shutout innings and picking up a win at Harrisburg this past Saturday.
