One dead in triple shooting in eastern Henrico

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Right now, Henrico Police are investigating a triple shooting that left one man dead and two others injured.

It happened at an apartment complex in the 300 block of Newbridge Road around 3:15 Thursday morning. Police spent hours at the scene trying to piece together everything that happened.

We talked with a friend of the victim, as well as the victim's girlfriend. "It's not going to be the same. It's never going to be the same," says Annette Burton. She knew the victim well.

"He was a peacemaker. He's a good friend. If anything, he was going to try to stop the violence," she adds.

But on this day -- the violence found him. Police say around 3:15 this morning -- multiple shots are fired in this stairway outside the Newbridge Apartment complex building.

Keith Jones is there during it all. "We were just chillin. It happened so fast. It was like, run! Basically, get the hell on, just go and do what you got to do. Move. Quick."

After the chaos, investigators learn three people are shot. One dies, shot multiple times. Two others are also hit and end up at VCU Medical Center.

Officials indentified the person who died to Isaiah D. Thompson, 22. He died of an apparent gunshot wound to the torso. Thompson was transported to the medical examiner's office for further evaluation.

Leaving investigators to canvass the neighborhood, looking for answers. "It is kind of like a jig-saw puzzle. Put that puzzle together to see what is missing, see what needs to be filtered out and see what we can find," says Lt. Mark Banks.

The victim's girlfriend did not want to talk on camera. She says her boyfriend was with some friends at Have a Nice Day Café in Downtown Richmond and this deadly shooting may have stemmed from a fight there involving some of the victims friends.

Police have not confirmed that information.

"I say to those who participated in this, it was stupid and you're going to get yours. It's going to come to you," says Jones.

This investigation is in the early stages and police are still trying to piece together exactly what happened.

The other two that were shot are expected to be okay.
