Dog shot dead in Henrico home invasion

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) – Police say a dog was shot and killed during an early morning home invasion in eastern Henrico County.

Henrico Police responded to the 3800 block of Howard Road just before 1:30 a.m. for a call of a shooting. Police say three people kicked in the rear door of a house and fired one shot, killing the dog that was inside. Authorities say the suspects then ran away, and fired another shot at a neighbor's house.

Four young adults lived inside the house. Other than the dog, a pit bull named Diamond, there were no injuries reported.

One neighbor shared his thoughts on the shooting, as long as he could remain anonymous.

"When I moved over here," he said, " I thought everything was cool. But after last night, you know, all that gunshot make me want to move again."

Neighbor Anthony Hargrove said he was surprised by the incident.

"Like, wow, actually. Like...I'm surprised that would happen, because this is a peaceful neighborhood," Hargrove said.

Police were unable to provide detailed suspect information or a motive for the shooting. If you have information that can help, call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
