HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Henrico County is forking over more than $6 million to buy an iconic piece of property.
County leaders say the Best Plaza office complex located off Interstate 95 and East Parham Road has good potential.
County leaders say this is prime property because the county is growing — which means county offices and services could soon need to expand.
The current county office complex is at Parham, and Hungary Springs Road is at what county leaders call the center of its population, but this property would be positioned more at the county's geographic center, which they think could be a good thing.
The Best property dates back to the 1950s, when a family started selling their products on West Marshall Street in Richmond.
The company grew to a nationally-renowned catalog showroom retailer — which is what the Henrico property was used for, with stylish buildings and art collections.
County leaders say the property is a bargain at $6 million. Its assessed value is closer to $10 million.
