RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A former 6-time All-Star and American League MVP is not coming to Richmond after all. The San Francisco Giants announced Monday that Miguel Tejada would suit up for the Flying Squirrels as part of a rehab assignment. But Tuesday, mere hours before he was set to arrive, the Giants announced he would not play for the Squirrels.
The 15 year major leaguer joined the Giants this season. He previously had stops with Oakland, Baltimore and Houston. He's hitting just .242 with 4 home runs this season, but has over 300 homers and 1200 RBI for his career.
The Squirrels are home from Tuesday until Sunday, and Tejada may be with the team for the entire homestand. The Squirrels play Bowie for a three game set, and then play three against Akron.
