FORT LEE, VA (WWBT) - It can happen on a regular basis. You catch a bug, or a sickness that can't really be explained.
Dr. Christopher Marshall may have an explanation.
In some cases, the illness may be related to food poisoning.
It can come from raw or undercooked foods. It can be prevented by washing hands before handling or preparing food.
It usually runs its course on its own. Stay well hydrated with small frequent sips of clear, electrolyte containing beverages such as Gatorade, avoid alcohol and caffeine. Ginger can help with nausea.
If vomiting and diarrhea last more than 2 days or are associated with a fever or if nausea and vomiting make it impossible to keep down other prescribed medications you should see your doctor.
