RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Cheston Hickman has started a handful of games at quarterback over the last two years at Virginia Union. But now, it's his team, and the senior is ready to carry the Panthers.
Hickman, and the other VUU Panthers, were out at Hovey Field Thursday to take their team picture. The senior from Columbia, SC does not stand out amongst his teammates. At 6 foot, 195 pounds, Hickman is not an imposing figure. But he says, it's not his size or strength that sets him apart.
"My strength is leadership," said Hickman. "When I talk, people tend to listen."
Hickman was set to share snaps with Aris McGlone-English. But the other quarterback left school after suffering a bout of homesickness, leaving Hickman as the man to take the majority of snaps.
He's not new to the position - having thrown for over 1500 yards and 13 TD's over the past three seasons. But now, he's the man at the forefront of a team that's looking to rebound after a 3-7 season.
